TASK
The clients purchased a new apartment without finishing—a typical situation for the new housing market in Russia, and Moscow in particular. At the start, they faced concrete walls, a lack of understanding of the process, and the main question: where to begin and how to avoid mistakes.
The request was not only for the interior, but also for a turnkey system of work:
-
competent planning
-
an interior that will never go out of style
-
maximum functionality without overload
-
The interior should be in the mid-up segment, meaning it should feature high-quality materials, uniqueness, and a contemporary design at a reasonable price, offering durability greater than fast-moving trends, but without the high premium for luxury or premium solutions.
PROBLEM
Like most clients who purchased an apartment in a new building, I encountered the following typical difficulties:
-
there is no basic scenario for living in an apartment
-
there is no understanding of the stages of repair
-
the risk of chaotic decisions "on the fly"
-
The standard layout from the developer does not take into account the real needs and habits of a particular family.
Without a project, such apartments almost always turn into a series of compromises and risk not living up to the expectations their owners had before purchasing them.
SOLUTION
We started with the most important thing—living scenarios and layout—not just the visuals. A good layout is the foundation of any interior, like the skeleton onto which you then string everything else.
We have built a clear system:
-
How the apartment will be used: who will be staying, will there be guests, how often, who in the family cooks and does they cook at all, or maybe they prefer prepared food, etc.
-
where the main part of family life takes place: habits, activities, hobbies
-
Where and what kind of private areas are needed: a separate children's room for one primary school-age child, a bedroom for parents
-
How to integrate storage without overcrowding the interior: We literally calculated the length of hangers, the number of pairs of shoes, suitcases, etc. We took into account every detail to design the storage necessary and sufficient for this specific family.
On this basis, a redevelopment was carried out and the structure of the entire space was established.
LAYOUT

The kitchen-living room is the center of life
New buildings often lack a sense of purpose in common areas. Most often, the developer delivers a house with a standard layout: a kitchen and a few separate rooms. They fail to take into account the unique needs of each individual family.
So here we formed a complete core of the apartment, taking into account the family's habits of spending evenings together, inviting friends over:
-
the kitchen is integrated into the common space of the kitchen-living room
-
The dining area is separated from the piano, as the owner is fond of playing the instrument.
-
a separate seating area with a custom-designed sofa and a comfortable armchair.
This is not just a beautiful area - it is a space where the main life of the family takes place and which fully meets their needs.
A nursery that promotes development and order
We used the potential of two windows:
-
A single window is integrated into the storage system , surrounded by shelving and a reading area. The solution serves two purposes: storage and privacy.
-
The second window zones the bedroom area.
Bedroom with a working function
A common question is how to organize a workspace without ruining the atmosphere of a bedroom or turning it into a full-fledged office.
The solution we have provided in this space:
-
a work area in a separate part of the room, at the entrance to the bedroom and integrated between two wardrobes
-
The uniform composition in walnut veneer helps avoid the “office” feeling.
The main part of the room looks like a regular full-size bedroom and doesn't visually or spatially intersect with the workspace. To achieve this, we created a bed with a wall-length headboard with built-in outlets and switches, and an additional extended windowsill as a seating area overlooking the Moscow River.
Storage and utility areas
In new-build apartments, it's crucial to immediately consider all technical features during the renovation phase.
We laid down:
-
separate dressing room
-
laundry
-
bathroom
-
bathroom with shower.
This allows you to avoid scattering functions throughout the apartment and maintain a clean space, logical movements, and ease of use.
STYLE AND MATERIALS
The interior is designed in a laconic modern style with elements of Japandi, Scandi, and minimalism—the perfect solution for new buildings in the metropolis, where it's important to create a sense of comfort from the ground up.
For this we used:
-
oak and walnut veneer of different shades
-
metal
-
natural fabrics (linen, matting)
-
natural and artificial stone
Color base:
-
warm neutral
-
graphite accents
-
small color nuances: elements in burgundy tones in the kitchen-living room, sunny yellow in the children's room.
RESULT
From a “concrete box” without a life plan, an apartment emerged where:
-
there is a clear logic of space
-
Every stage has been thought through, from planning to electrical outlets
-
The interior looks cohesive and calm, meeting both the needs of the apartment's owners and the spirit of the time and place.
The key thing to note is that the project delivered not only a visual result but also eliminated the uncertainty and chaos that almost every renovation in a new building begins with. Thanks to it, there was no need to struggle with choosing, worry about missing out on a tile deal, or doing something wrong. We thought everything through in advance, based on the specific needs of the family, and took into account all their wishes.
